TRAINING FOR CAREER?
Training for Career?
What governs our choices?
Price:
Is it really a question of affordability?
You don’t buy the cheapest when buying clothes or a bike. So why training?
Spending the right money (not the highest or lowest) on training yourself for a career as this has the fastest payback and reaps returns for a very long time.
Decide what you want & negotiate the best price for it instead of buying the cheapest or the most expensive something that you did not want
Features:
These are important, but check if most of them add value to what you are looking for.
Ensure they are practically deliverable and are actually delivered.
Question anything that beats your logic and be practical & realistic.
Sales Talk:
If the sales person seems illogical on some aspects, ask questions to verify facts.
Make a list of your needs and compare with information provided. Clarify your doubts.
Buy on facts and not because the sales girl was too sweet to refuse.
It is your career and your time & money that you are going to spend.
Advertising:
You can’t miss the impact of advertising.
Stay away from the companies who advertise what they do not intend to deliver and verify facts to get best value.
References:
Take references from known people who do not have vested interests.
You get the right advice and preference pricing.
Caution: Do not land up in blind confirmations, verify your facts.
Trial:
Some may offer free trials. This is not a very convincing tool as trials and deliveries may differ significantly.
If in doubt talk to some existing students to find out more
Deliverables:
Institutes training for career will deliver content, lectures, workshops & projects.
A student has to ensure presence of mind & body to accept these deliveries to benefit him.
At the same time maintaining a calendar for deliverables and verifying it ensures you are on track & keeps the training centre also on its toes for deliveries.
Otherwise it is time & money spent with little or no results.
Track Record:
A good method to evaluate if your choice is right.
Talk to old students to find out how the training from the institute has influenced the career progression for these students.
Affiliations:
Good affiliations keep a strong vigil on the institutes that use their name.
Periodic checks from these affiliations ensure quality standards for faculty, content & infrastructure are maintained.
Caution: Lookout for bogus & irrelevant affiliations.
Verify facts and do not be impressed with affiliations that do not impact the training program
Availability:
Going an extra mile to find a good training institute will add high value to your career.
Joining somebody next door or cheaper may actually be quite expensive in long run.
You would have lost time & money and may be on a wrong track
These may not be the only choices governing your decisions.
It is important that you do a fair evaluation on all points and not allow any one of these points to be a sole decision making criteria.
It is your career and it will move the way you take it
